Teaching Philosophy

My philosophy of teaching focuses on encouraging students to combine their cognitive and affective strengths, their own motivation for the subject matter, and my willingness and ability to enhance success in them, however it reveals itself.

I have accomplished the most as a student, when my teacher was also my supportive mentor, my guide.  I have accomplished the most as a teacher, when my students were motivated and encouraged to use their strengths to succeed, often overcoming any purported weaknesses.

Research & Interests

I have enjoyed learning about various cultures, their languages, values, aesthetic treasures and esteemed qualities.  I have studied and taught languages (German and French) and cultures (European).  I have focused the last 15 years on East Asian cultures, library and information systems and high technology.  I am most interested in how one might promote the use of high-tech and high touch resources and environments to facilitate teaching and learning in various cultures, particularly North American, European and East Asian.
